SLO's -
- The student will have an accurate mental representation of the layout of Internet Explorer (IE).
- The student will be able to describe how IE Tools are different than the elements of Lists and Links.
Parts of IE:
- Title Bar; confirms that you are on the correct page and that you are in Internet Explorer. It is the top line of the screen.
- Back page and Forward page; Two buttons that will take you to the previous page or the next page if you have already back paged. These buttons are on the second line of the screen on the left side; usually.
- Adress Bar; the address bar can be located anywhere on the top of the screen. It is a text area that displays the webaddress of the page that you are currently on. By inserting a different address and pressing the Go button, you will be taken to the new web page.
- Menu Bar; The menu bar is located below the backspace buttons. The menu bar may be different on each computer. Normally, it is set up with at least the following menu items; File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help.
- Home Button: Sometimes, the Home button is located next to the Menu bar, but can be anywhere at the top of the screen. By pressing this button, you will return to the default startup webpage for the computer that you are on. Our computers go to the Delta College homepage.
- Search text area; This is a text area somewhere at the top of the screen. You can perform an internet search by typing in keywords and pressing the Enter key.
- Page Tabs; These tabs allow for more than one webpage to be opened at one time. Each tab will display the name of the webpage. If there is no name, then it isn't linked to a webpage yet. Many tabs can be opened at the same time.
- Webpage display area; This is where the content for the webpage is displayed. How it is organized is determined by the web designer. The content can be displayed so that the information is easy to use and understand, or it can be displayed so that the user becomes confused. This is what we will be learning in this class.
- Status Bar; This area informs the user iff the page has loaded completely. It is always under the webpage display area.
- Start Button, Task Bar, and System Tray; This information is displayed below the status bar and is not part of Internet Explorer.
